Cheap and not a promising ingredient list
I was a little concerned about using this at first, combined with other skin care products I’m using (retinols, AHA, BHA, glycolic acid…) There’s really no percentage of vitamin C listed on the jar, which I’ve seen on other beauty products, so you can get an idea of how potent it is.Looking at the ingredient list, though, I have less concern. but that’s not a good thing.First, the ingredients on the box are actually impossible to read. It’s extremely tiny text, and white font on yellow is so low contrast. I just couldn’t read it. Once you open the box, there’s black text on the white label, so you can at least read it more easily… however, it’s a WILDLY long ingredient list, so again… tiny text.The first ingredient is water. The second is glycerin. Both of these at the top of the ingredient list should explain why this is only $5. There’s another fistful of oils and butters before you ever get to the vitamin C ingredient, which is from papaya extract, which doesn’t explain the orange (and/or grapefruit?) on the bottle. It has a vague papaya scent.I’m pretty sure the vitamin C is pretty low in this, so I went ahead and used it. It is nice and smooth, the shea butter helps. The scent really is very light and it doesn’t linger. It absorbs into your skin and leaves behind a nice, soft feeling.But I kind of feel like it doesn’t do anything except act as a bit of a moisturizer. I do think it’s a decent moisturizer! The ingredient list, especially with order of ingredients, doesn’t really help with the promises of skin brightening or evening out skin tone. It’s very cheap, but also, I think you can get a better product that doesn’t have a short story as an ingredient list for similar.

Softens Desert-Dry Dull Aging Skin
Living in the desert means moisture is not a luxury, it is a daily negotiation. Add in skin that has seen more than five decades of sun, wind, questionable sunscreen habits in the 1980s, and general life, and I am always appreciative of any product that helps my hands and face feel a little less like parchment paper left out overnight. That is where this kojic acid cream earned its spot on my counter.I used this primarily on the backs of my hands, my neck, and my face, which are the first areas to wave a white flag when hydration is lacking. The cream itself has a pleasant, civilized texture. Not greasy, not heavy, and mercifully not the kind that makes you feel like you need to wait twenty minutes before touching anything you own. It spreads easily and absorbs well, and what really caught my attention was that even twenty minutes later my hands still felt smooth and comfortable instead of dry again. It had a subtle scent to it that smells like natural essence, probably from the ingredients themselves and not a perfume smell at all. I like that because my moisturizer needs not compete with my own intentionally applied perfume choice.I approach any product promising dramatic improvements with a healthy dose of lived experience. I am not expecting miracles, time travel, or my skin to suddenly remember what it was like in college. What I can say is that this cream feels soothing, provides solid moisture, and leaves skin looking and feeling softer and more refreshed. In a climate where dry air wins most arguments, that is no small thing.Now we need to discuss the phrase in the description that says this can be used on the body, including intimate areas. This stopped me cold for a moment. Who is lying awake at night worrying about the skin tone of their intimate areas. I am not conducting investigative journalism or product testing in that direction, but I did laugh, reread it, and move on with my life. Used on hands, neck, and face, it behaved beautifully and caused no irritation.Overall, this is a pleasant, easy to use cream that focuses on making aging skin feel more comfortable and cared for. If your skin is dry, a little sun seasoned, and would appreciate something that absorbs nicely and keeps working after you forget you put it on, this one does a respectable job. It may not change your life, but it might make your hands feel nicer while you are living it, and at this point I will happily take that.
