Good Quality – No Removable Cover
This zafu cushion feels like very good quality right out of the box. It’s firm but still comfortable, and it provides solid support for sitting without feeling stiff. It is a little smaller than I expected, but not enough to be an issue once I started using it.I really appreciate that it’s filled with kapok and handcrafted in Japan. It has that traditional, well-made feel you expect from a meditation cushion, and it holds its shape nicely while sitting. The one thing I wish it had is a removable cover. Most zafus I’ve used in the past had a zipper so you could remove the inner cushion for washing, and this one does not. That said, those zafus were also quite a bit more expensive.Overall, this feels like a good-quality zafu at a fair price. If you’re looking for a firm, supportive meditation cushion without paying premium meditation shop prices, this one is a solid option.Disclaimer: This review is part of Amazon’s Vine Program which provides products at no upfront cost in exchange for honest and unbiased reviews. Not the top of the line zafu
Not buckwheat filled and kind of small.

Traditional Feel with Firm, Honest Support
I have used a handful of meditation cushions over the years, and this Japan made zafu stands out for its firmness and overall balance. The kapok filling is noticeably denser than many generic cushions, which at first felt a bit stiff. After settling into it, though, I came to appreciate that firmness. It keeps my hips slightly elevated and helps maintain a more natural spine alignment during longer sitting sessions. The shape is well proportioned and stable. It does not flatten excessively under weight, and it rebounds nicely after use. That consistency makes it easier to maintain posture without constantly adjusting. For zazen style sitting or even simple breath work, the support feels intentional rather than cushy.Craftsmanship is also worth noting. The stitching appears tight and even, and the overall construction feels durable. It has a simple, understated look that fits well in a dedicated meditation corner without drawing attention to itself. If I had one minor critique, those who prefer a softer or more plush seat may find the kapok filling a bit too firm at first. It is designed for posture support rather than lounging comfort.Overall, this is a well made, traditional style zafu that prioritizes proper alignment and long term durability. For anyone serious about mindfulness practice or structured meditation, it provides reliable support without unnecessary extras.

Comfortable and supportive
I decided to get this meditation cushion after seeing that the filling is made from natural kapok cotton. Knowing it doesn’t contain unnecessary chemicals made me feel much safer and more comfortable using it regularly, especially for something I sit on during meditation. When it arrived, I was also impressed by how nice the material feels overall. It has a solid, high-quality texture that feels expensive. Fair warning is that the cushion itself is very firm but very comfortable nonetheless. This does help to maitain good posture and alligned spine without feeling too hard. The size is just right as it is roomy enough to sit cross-legged comfortably, but not bulky or awkward to store. It feels very well made and sturdy, like it will hold up well over time. I also appreciate the simple design that blends nicely into my space. The only drawback is the steep price, but given that it’s made in Japan and uses high-quality natural materials, the cost feels understandable and justified.

Comfortable
Very comfortable cushion if you sit in certain positions. This is best for anyone who sits on the floor with their legs cross or kneeling like a monk or Japanese person would sit. I positioned the pillow under my legs and it made it much more comfortable to sit in a meditative position. The cushion is soft and the perfect size for sitting in certain positions. This cushion isn’t really designed to be put over a chair. The cushion is soft, no smells coming from it either. It is pretty expensive so I wouldn’t say it’s a great value but it is made with natural things so you get what you pay for.

Zafu cushions like this are commonplace in Japanese homes, temples, monasteries, etc., where meditation and floor seating are widely utilized. This Zafu cushion is handmade in Japan using kapok filling, which is a cotton-like fibre obtained from the pods of a kapok tree. These lightweight fibres are naturally hypoallergenic and biodegradable. This cushion is made in a rather traditional style with a round panel on the top and bottom and rectangular strips down the side.Being handmade, the cushions may have some variance, but it feels sturdy and well crafted. The cushion is lightweight and firm but quite comfortable to sit on. It works well for me either sitting cross-legged or on my knees. While it is promoted as a meditation cushion, it can be used for general floor seating, lumbar support, a head pillow, etc. Its size and shape make it pretty versatile. It’s worth noting that this cushion is not washable, and the black fabric does show lint, etc., pretty easily, so regular wiping/brushing will be needed. A cover would be handy to have for it.You will also occasionally need to reshape it by hand once in a while as needed. As a Zafu cushion, it is pretty much as expected, but it does come with a rather large price tag. I know that these cushions can be expensive, and being handmade in Japan no doubt adds to the cost. That being said, this is a rather niche item in this part of the world, so I don’t really know how it compares well enough to comment on its value. The cushion is as advertised. It feels well made and is comfortable, plus having a more “authentic” product from Japan is kind of a nice novelty to have for this kind of cushion/seating.

What we have here is a hand made authentic meditation cushion from Japan! This is a beautiful cushion with fine stitching and a pleated edge. It’s made from Kapok seed which is hypoallergenic. Even so there is a very slight odour from the material (kind of smells like elmers white glue – but you need to put your nose deep on it.)This products offers a good height for posture and crossing legs as well as other poses. It’s a little bit lumpy for initial uses, but hopefully that will wear in and fluff better. It’s easy to fluff and reshape a little after usage. At the time of order this was $133.27, I see at last look it is now 172.19 – I think we’re pushing the boundaries of price levels. Although it is definitely a premium product with all the attention to details one might expect from Japanese artisans, but the price seems too high. This is a great product and is recommended, but the price needs to come down or look for sales/coupons etc. 3.5 stars but rounding up to a solid 4!

Wasn’t sure about this pillow at first. Definitely had a price point that was higher than what I would expect for a piece like this, but I can understand why people would be pay for something that is authentic. There’s definitely a lot of history with these types of pillow. What really surprising me is how comfortable it is. Material that fills it seems soft but also dense. When you sit on it, it’s not so hard that it’s uncomfortable, but it’s not soft so you squish directly into it. It holds its shape and keeps you upright. The material is hand stitched. While that is a neat feature, it also allows for some small differences in the pillows. I really like the look and the stitching is very well done. All in all, this will hit different depending on who and why you’re buying this. I think it is very comfortable to sit on the ground with, especially if you’re doing puzzles on a coffee table or other sitting games or chores. I did not find I got uncomfortable easily.

I’ve used meditation cushions at studios that I practice in, but at home, I’ve either sat on a block or on the floor. This cushion offered me more elevation than I’m used to, which actually made me feel more in tune with my practice. It has a sewed-on handle which makes it super easy to grip and grab when I’m ready to meditate, or to put it away when I’m finished. Although it’s more elevated than the cushions that I’ve used at studios, this one feels really nice and I suspect that it will mold and bend to my shape over time.
